| About the Montgomery County Equine Council |
The Montgomery County Equine Council, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1979 by a few local horseback riders to meet the needs and interest of equestrians in Montgomery and the surrounding counties of Pennsylvania. The initial goal was to save open space and public lands and to increase public access for recreation. We advocate for safe riding practices and help plan, maintain and monitor public trail systems that are multi-use and non-motorized. The MCEC has worked with the county officials to plan, map, build and sign trails.
Parks include:
Evansburg State Park Green Lane Park, Red, Blue & Orange Trails and equestrian camp grounds Nockamixon State Park Perkiomen Trail Tyler State Park Valley Forge National Park
The council sponsors education programs for the novice to experienced horsepersons. The council is also involved in supporting our community by supporting local riding clubs, therapeutic riding and 4H clubs. A quarterly newsletter is circulated to members with updated information on local trails, legislation issues, lecture programs, calendar of events, advertisements and news. The MCEC holds an annual paper chase event at Green Lane Park in October. The MCEC is a member and supports the Pennsylvania Equine Council.
The MCEC is active in maintaining trails and assisting volunteer trail maintenance efforts for public trails. The MCEC promotes public awareness for multi-use trails by distributing "Share the Trails" brochures
As a member, the MCEC can continue to maintain equestrian trails, organize special events and sponsor special interest lectures. We welcome all new comers and members to be an active part of the council meetings and activities. We are always looking for new ideas and suggestions. Please volunteer in one of the committees that interest you. People interested in helping to maintain local trails, please contact us. (Go to contact page). With your support our membership can make a difference for the equestrian world.
